 GOLF COURSE UPDATE: On March 16th we played this course, this course is set in the centre of the city its overall condition can only be described as fantastic. Every hole has a different challenge, the course covers a very large area and a buggy is strongly recommended. On the 16th hole ,which is a par 5 there are some  Roman ruins( which I landed on!!). Many of the fairways are generous and the greens are smooth, fast and superb for putting on.-Steven Franchi.

On the outskirts of Alicante City close to the 7km San Juan beach is a modern 18 hole golf course designed by Seve and opened in 1998. Incorporating lakes and artificial rivers into the design has increased the difficulty rating of the course which has a par of 72, with six par 3's, six par 4's and six par 5's. It is a gentle course to walk around and its flatness increases the visibility.

GOLF COURSE UPDATE Steven played with Mike McCory and friends on Friday the 11th of September  and found the course to be in fantastic condition. Though it is a little more expensive than some of the other courses we cover it is well worth a visit when in the Costa Blanca. This is one of the best designed golf courses by (Dave Thomas and son Paul) in Europe, no less than 92 hectares in total, with wide fairways and every hole has a different challenge. The course is built on natural terrain with very gentle slopes and undulations as well as many well placed hazards. The course measures 6,724 metres (7,400 yards), and with tee off times every ten minutes, even on very busy days you can take your time and enjoy this great golf course.

GOLF COURSE UPDATE, Steven played this golf course on the 6th of November 09 with friends and they all agreed that this is a superb golf course. The greens were fast and very true and among the most testing in the area due to the many slopes and undulations on all 18 holes. The course was in great condition from tee to green as you would expect from a Nicklaus course. This is a good test of golf for all levels of golfer.

Hacienda Riquelme is the third 18 Hole Golf Resort to be opened by Polaris World, designed by Jack Nicklaus (Nicklaus Design). This new resort which opened to the general public on the 16th of June 08, had been anticipated to offer a different kind of challenge, by comparison to the other Nicklaus Golf Courses and is well worth a visit.

GOLF COURSE UPDATE  When I recently played at La Manga we found the front nine particularly tough, with two par 3's over 210 yards long and some daunting par 4's which will demand accurate driving between lakes and bunkers, requiring long irons or fairway woods to the greens. The back nine, although shorter, has a number of intriguing dog-leg holes. Special attention should be given to both the 11th and 12th holes, which demand precise club selection to greens across water. Steven Franchi.

Lying in a flat valley surrounded by hills not far from the town of Rojales, La Marquesa Golf Course was opened in 1989. There has been substantial development around it and it can be a little difficult to find for the first time visitor. The course was designed by Justo Quesada Samper and has 18 holes, is 6115 Metres long and a Par 72.

La Sella Golf offers challenges for all type of players and opened in 1991. It is varied and thought provoking, and is the longest golf course in the Costa Blanca and, if you know how to use all of your clubs, you will be able to get a good result.The La Sella Golf Resort near Denia on the Costa Blanca will soon be the largest one on this coastline. The present course is part of the Marriott Hotel and La Sella residential complex and it is going to be extended to 27 holes. The extension will involve growing a further 1000 trees, mostly indiginous to the Mediterranean. It will be irrigated using recycled water from a treatment plant in Ondara. Once the extension is completed the club will have three nine-hole routes, each named after the three winds which run across them, the Llebeig, the Gregal and the Mestral.
La Sella recently played host to the Spanish Female Professional Golfers Championships and the Professional Female European Cup. This course is some 40 minutes from Alicante City so prepare for a long day out.

GOLF COURSE UPDATE, Steven played La Serena on Sunday the 4th of October with the Queens Inn and friends. It was a beautiful sunny day and the course over all was in great condition. The greens were smooth, fast and true to putt on. The fairways were in the best condition that I have seen at La Serena. One of the party said to me "how could anyone not enjoy this great golf course its not only a good challenge but its a joy to play" and after today I must agree-Steven Franchi

La Serena is only two miles from Roda and a tough test of golf for any player and handicap. Par is 72 and at just over 6168 metres off the white tees its a challenging one. There are four par fives all over 500 metres so hit two of your best to make birdies.

Hole 1, 394 Metres Par 4,
The Tee for the first hole is found near the putting green from where you have a beautiful panoramic view of the golf course. It is a straight hole without bunkers on the fairway but has out of bounds on the left, and on the right the aquatic driving range is found.
The entrance to the green is protected on the left by undulations of rough which hinders the approach. The major difficulty of this hole is the distance because medium handicap players will have more than 160 metres left for the second shot, which compensates for the lack of bunkers protecting the green.

Las Ramblas is another par 72 golf course at 5807 metres long.Its located between two ravines on the shore of the Mediterranean. All the greens and fairways are dramatic and contrasting. GOLF COURSE UPDATE- I played this golf course on Wednesday 14th October  with three friends and found that the tees ,fairways and greens were very impressive.
Seve has designed this course in such a way that there are some extremely hard ,long holes but also many birdie opportunities. This is definitely a thinking mans' golf course. You will see what I mean when you walk through the tunnel and step onto the first tee.This hole is a par 5 and has been designed not to be reached in two shots.

Seve Ballesteros is recognised as one of the finest golf course designers in the world and having already designed over thirty golf courses, he brings his wealth of golfing expertise and experience to the golf course at Peraleja Golf Resort.The centre piece of Peraleja Golf Resort is the 6,089 metre, Par 72 golf course. It has been designed to make the most of the rugged landscape and while it is a challenging course with some difficult greens and strategically placed hazards, it will delight golfers of all levels.

Note: At this point its worth mentioning the greens, they are fantastic to putt on fast and very true.The greens are only about three years old and as good as any greens on any championship golf course, however this footnote is reserved for the contours and borrows that lie ahead. The greens are a real challenge, exciting for those golfers with a sadistic streak, potentially terrifying for the rest. The borrows and and pin positions are a feature on almost every hole so enjoy.

Roda golf club is only ten minutes from the Murcia airport and  twenty minutes from the hotels and bars at Cabo Roig. It is a par 72 and at 6800 yards is a great test of golf for all handicaps. The fairways are wide and well cut which makes it easier to hit good shots from. There are 54 bunkers on the course all well placed for catching your drives or wayward second shots to the greens.

GOLF COURSE UPDATE-Steven played on the 20th of October with Jamie Martinez and son Jimmy and found that the course is in the best condition it has been in for some years. At the moment the tees have had work done to repair the patchy areas and are coming on very well, the greens and fairways are in superb condition and make for a great game of golf.
Reviewed on 1st July and the work done between the 15th and 16th holes is complete. They have added four new water hazards, one between the 15th and 16th fairways and the other three round the front right and back of the 15th green. This course is straight forward and plays as you see it at 6745 yards its another good test for any level of club golfer.
