Golf4uAlicante July 2011 Newsletter
====================================
July 2011
Welcome to month seven of Golf4ualicante newsletter 2011 with
news and views from the Costa Blanca and Costa Calida.
We sat down to watch the 140th British Open at Royal St Georges
on Thursday watching these poor guys play it the most dreadful
weather as we intermittently popped outside to the pool to cool
down in temperatures that reached 93 degrees fahrenheit!.
The old favourites like Tom Watson and young guns like
and Tom Lewis played very entertaining golf.
We loved the way Darren Clarke played in a calm and humourous
manner all the way to top. What a guy !
We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
We have had quite a few returning golfers booked for the next
season starting in September. There are some summer deals
continuing until the middle of September and even a couple
of deals into October so please check out our updated green
fees on the web site
Once again thanks to the golfers who have taken the time to
leave feedback it is much appreciated, It is beneficial to pass
on your constructive criticism to the golf courses which will
help them to improve their service.
All new comments will be gratefully received on our testimonial
page
If you fancy some golf at any time ,please get in touch by email lucy@golf4ualicante.com and we can put together a package to
suit your visit to the Costa blanca.

More and more Chinese stores
=============================
Have you ever wondered why there are more and more Chinese stores
opening in Spain?
Reading a recent article reported from Beijing—A Chinese sovereign
wealth fund has told Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodriguez
Zapatero that it is mulling an investment of up to €9.3 billion
($13.46 billion) in the country's savings banks, also known as
cajas, in a new show of financial support for Spain's troubled
economy.
The announcement comes as Mr. Zapatero is on an Asian tour to
China and Singapore. During a meeting with Mr. Zapatero Tuesday,
Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao said his country plans to
continue buying Spanish bonds and would considering investing in
savings banks, but no figures were given.
China was a big investor in Spanish government debt last year and
currently holds a total of around €25 billion, or 12% of all
foreign holdings. Spain needs to sell €50 billion in net debt
this year to finance a deficit it forecasts will be just over 6%
of gross domestic product, twice the limit for European Union
countries.
A Chinese investment of €9.3 billion in Spain's cajas would cover
more than half the €15 billion these institutions need to raise
this year to cover new Spanish minimum-capital requirements.
The cajas are scrambling to either find private investors or
obtain funds from Spain's state-backed Fund for Orderly Bank
Restructuring.
Most analysts estimate the cajas will need to raise much more
capital to cover mounting losses after the collapse of a
decade-long housing boom.
At a press conference in Madrid recently, Isidro Faine,
head of Spain's savings bank association, said he hadn't
been informed of the possible Chinese investment but that
he would be "delighted" by such a move.
Pets will travel
================
CAT and dog owners who want to take their furry friends to the
UK with them will no longer have to leave them in quarantine for
six months, once the rules are relaxed next year.
Until now, pets had to have a rabies injection, followed by a
blood test a month later to make sure it had worked, and be
treated for ticks between 24 and 48 hours prior to embarking on
the plane or ferry.
Once the blood test had shown clear, the animal then had to spend
six months in quarantine upon arrival in the UK, a traumatic
and expensive time for both animals and owners.
Hot stone restaurant La Fuente centre ,Campoamor
================================================
We recently went again with friends to this fab restaurant and
must say it was one of the best steaks we have eaten for ages.
It is not cheap but is delicious. The concept is fairly simple
you order a sealed steak and the stone is heated to something
like 600 degrees in a special oven and you cut a little piece
of steak dip it in oil and finish cooking it to your preference.
Double yummy. Check out this link to get a 10%discount in July.
Murcia launch new tram system
=============================
The initiative launched last month is part of an environmental
scheme Murcia not far from us to reduce congestion and emissions
and encourage the use of public transport.
Residents were invited to donate their cars – which must be in
working order and with a valid MOT – in return for an everlasting
ticket on a tram system inaugurated last month.
"The point is to take cars out of circulation for the
environmental benefits this brings," explained Severiano Arias,
director of the Murcia Transvia Society. "So we are only
accepting working cars not ones ready for scrap heap because
that would not serve any purpose."
Spain which is a struggling country has however some of the best
public transport systems- not sure how this will work but good
luck to them for trying this new venture.
One cannot help draw some comparisons with the Edinburgh Tram
debacle originally costed at £375 million in 2003, the budget was
as later increased to £545 million; in May 2011, it was revealed
that £440 million had already been spent on the project.
A report issued recently estimated that the partial completion
of the tram line from the airport to the city centre would cost
£770 million.
All change on Spanish Motorways
===============================
It was only 3 months ago that the decision was made to reduce the
speed on Spanish motorways from 120 kph to 110 kph.
Then the announcement came and money spent to return to the 120 kph
now as apparently since this reduction there have been no less than
15 fatal accidents on the motorways and it has been deduced
( by whom we are not sure) that it is down to this change in
speed limit!!!
So it was all change back to 120kph and be wary of the many new
speed cameras secretly hidden on the motorways- if you have a
Satnav that warns you then be thankful!.
Due to holidays in August will see you in September!
