 September 2011
=================
Welcome to month nine of Golf4ualicante newsletter 2011 with news and views from the Costa Blanca and Costa Calida.

As "summer season " draws to an end ,the temperatures during the day are still great in the low 30's -high 20's but at least we can sleep at night now without air con on constantly as the nights cool down.Thank goodness we all say.

Reports regarding the holiday season are pretty positive as Government figures show that 8.5% more tourists visited Spain in July compared with 2010, with the number reaching 5.7 million.
And hotels in towns such as Guardamar del Segura and Torrevieja have reported much improved occupancy rates this summer.
Another positive is that our golfers are going home with money in their pockets as many bars and restaurants in this area keeping prices very competitive.

Hollow tining
=========
We do try to keep up with the maintenance plans at the golf courses but on occasion they change the dates and don't inform us- if this happens we will endeavour to find an alternative course for you.
Please look at our web page under green fee offer we added maintenance updates.
La Finca informed us only 2 days ago they were cancelling their programme of " spiking the greens " which we amended on this page.
Please check out our web site

Thanks
======
Once again many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to leave feedback it is much appreciated.
We believe that it helps golfers considering coming out to Spain to golf to be able to read your thoughts on our service and the golf courses in this area.

 Campoamor Golf Course
==================
As you are probably aware Campoamor from previous newsleeter that they completed a major overhaul on the golf course recently and dug up many of their fairways and re seeded them making the course unplayable for several months.
Now they had hollow tined the course 12-16 of this month and we believe they need more time to heal before they are playable.
We think that they will have lost a lot of money doing this during fairly busy months and reiterate why do they not better plan these things.

However in comparison Las Colinas, if you saw my recent blog after 2 days of hollow tining a mere 9 days later was in superb condition to play- better course management perhaps?

 Irish Open v  Usa AT&T
==================
Rory McIlroy could miss next year's Irish Open because of a clash with a big tournament in the United States.
McIlroy might have to choose between the Irish event and the AT&T National at the Congressional Club, the scene of his US Open victory in June.
It is understood an insurance company is being lined up to take over as title sponsor of the Irish Open.
As part of that, it could move from its normal late July slot in the European Tour schedule to 28 June-1 July.
In August, McIlroy said he was planning to rejoin the PGA Tour in the USA, after a one-year absence.
McIlroy won the US Open at the Congressional Club by an amazing eight-shot margin, finishing on 16 under par.
It made him the youngest champion since Bobby Jones in 1923 and the youngest major winner since Tiger Woods won the Masters in 1997.
McIlroy finished 12 shots behind winner Simon Dyson in the Irish Open in July. The tournament had hugely reduced prize money because there was no main sponsor.

Eclipse in cartagena
===============
The giant cruise liner Celebrity Eclipse docked in Cartagena on Thursday, bringing with her some 2,800 eager tourists.
Launched in 2010, the Celebrity Eclipse is one of the biggest cruise ships in the world. She stands 315 metres long, 37 metres wide and carries 12 decks, comprising of more than 1,100 cabins, all with balconies, 62 suites and a wide range of leisure zones including miniature golf, a jogging track, a basketball court, gym, casino, beauty salon, library, spa, games room and even a cinema.
If you have never been on one of these it is literally like a small town and the service has always been excellent.

During the stopover in Cartagena, the passengers took advantage of the good weather to stroll the streets and shop, sit on the terraces and bars downtown and visit tourist spots such as the Roman Theatre, the Palace Hall and Main Street.

Don't give me a break
================
On a personal level due to a pair of "aqua shoes" I ended up in Torrevieja Hospital last month- getting an operation to insert 2 pins into my broken wrist.
Well a shock to the system is an understatement as the one and only time I have broken  anything ( other than the odd plate or cup ) was when after jumping up (yes it was possible in these days) to catch a rather stupendous throw I came crashing elegantly to the floor landing on the inside of my foot-Ouch!

I fondly remember at 11 the attention and status this brought me  -being the only one in the entire school with a "stookie " or "pot" if you are from south of the border,which made me a major high school celebrity.

I don't remember the pain just the glory now all these years later do I feel the pain and none of the glory - Hell Yes!
So only another week or so and I will be back to being able to type with two sets of fingers albeit slowly. Lucy
