There are many stunning views of the surrounding area from most of the tee’s on this golf course. Font del Llop has many undulating fairways, water hazards, bunkers and challenging greens to make it a course to remember for years to come ! The 19th is a stylish, characterful and cosy club house which welcomes you before and after your round and from the sun terrace you can see 12 of the 18 holes on this fantastic golf course. A really nice touch is that if you have booked a buggy you will find that it has not only your name on it but your tee time as well.

Many fellow golfers ask me which is my favourite golf course in the Alicante, Murcia region and my reply has always been I don’t have one as they are all very good in there own way how ever I can now say that Font Del Llop is at the Top of my must play list when booking Discounted Green fees from www.golf4ualicante.com.

As you walk down the steps from the caddy master there you will find the buggies and just to your left you will also find the first tee.

There are 5 sets of tee’s on each hole at Font Del Llop Golf resort and I have used the White tee measurements for this review, mere mortals normally use the Yellow tee’s and the course measures 5870 metres from this point.

Hole 1 Par 4, 338 Metres.
This first hole is played from an elevated tee and at first glance it looks like quite a narrow fairway but in actual fact it is very generous. Out to the left side of the fairway there is out of bounds and a few clusters of trees and down the right side there are more trees and short but thick rough along with an adjoining fairway.
This hole plays as a slight dog leg left to right and the fairway slopes from left to right also. From the tee you can clearly see two bunkers out to the far left but what you cant see is the two very well placed bunkers cut into the semi-rough down the right side and yes all four bunkers can come into play from the tee.
The best line as always is straight down the middle or far right taking the bunkers out of play. As with most of the fairway on the super course there are many undulations and also flat spots to play from. Your approach shot is played down hill to the green which has one bunker cut to the front right side. This green is a good size and slopes from the back edge down towards the front with a few twists and turns to contend with. You will find all of the greens at Font Del Llop very receptive so attack the pin at all times. There is a bank around the left side of the green with trees on the top so should you miss long a good pitch and put could save par.

Hole 2 Par 4, 416 Metres.
The second hole at Font Del Llop in my opinion is a tremendous golfing hole and a real challenge for all levels of golfer and it plays as stroke index 5 on the score card.
Once again from an elevated tee you can see this wide fairway slopes from left to right and plays as a dog leg also from left to right.
As you look down this hole you will see out of bounds to the left and trees that line most of this fairway. What you don’t see from the tee is the three very well placed bunkers that are cut into the semi-rough just on the dog leg right side.
As always the best line from the tee is straight down the middle left side of this wide fairway to allow your ball to bounce back into the perfect spot and leave a good line of sight to the pin.
For the more adventurous and longer hitters the best line is straight down the right side of the semi-rough with a nice draw, but remember if its not your country best you could find your ball in one of the bunkers which are about 150 metres from the green this will make it difficult to make par.
Like most of the fairways on this great course there are many hollows and dips and this one is no exception, some times it helps and other time is doesn’t its just your luck on the day.
Once at your ball its decision time do I go for the green or do I lay up and use my shot if you are lucky enough to have one?
Looking down the steep slope to the green you will find two bunkers to the right just short of the waters edge and two further bunkers short and wide left. The water hazard I mentioned above runs from about 90 metres short of the putting surface right side and continues all the way around the back side of this green.
I can only tell you it takes a fantastic golf shot to find what looks like a very small putting surface from way back on the fairway.Once on the green you can clearly see there are many twists and turns on it and the closer you are to the pin the better.
This green slopes from left to right side and back edge down towards the front with a small valley running through the middle of it.

Hole 3 Par 3, 205 Metres.
Standing on an elevated tee at this short par three it looks like an easy hole and yes if you hit a good tee shot it is. The stroke index for this hole is 6 on the score card so that tells you its not as easy as it looks.
You will see that there is out of bounds to the left and both sides of this hole are tree lined and there are more trees to the back of this large green.
In the semi-rough to the right side of this green there are three bunkers to avoid one front edge one middle and one back edge, if you land in one of these bunkers it leaves you with a rather tricky shot to get close to the pin as this green is long from front to back but quite narrow from left to right side.
So my best bit of advice at this hole is choose the club that will carry your ball all the way to the middle part of this green where you will find a subtle slope from left to right, nine times out of ten if you land there you will be close to the pin with a birdie chance calling you.
The green itself slopes from back to front and left side to right. One last point if you miss the putting surface here you will be in some sort of trouble as there is no fairway on this par three.

Hole 4 Par 4, 388 Metres,
This is yet another super golfing hole from the elevated tee you can see most of this tree lined hole.
You need a good drive at this one as there is a deep riven just in front of the tee which you need to carry to make the fairway, its about a 120 metre carry.
This fairway has many slopes and undulations and at the 150 metre marker from the green there are two well placed bunkers equidistant both left and right that can come into play from the tee.
As always the best line from the tee is straight down the middle of what I think is quite a wide fairway.
Once at your tee shot you can clearly see that its a rather narrow entrance to this elevated green and what make your second shot more difficult is that you will be playing from a down hill lie to       what looks like a small green that’s banked all the way around the fringe.
If your tee shot is down the right side of this fairway hitting the putting surface in two will be tricky as there is a small cluster of trees guarding the middle front right side, the safety shot if you are right side is long and left from that point you have still a chance  to play a good pitch and hole a putt for par.
This green once on it is large and slopes from front to a hollow in the middle and from the back edge it also slope down to the hollow in the middle so the closer  you are to the pin the more chance you have to make par on this tricky par four.

Hole 5 Par 5, 499 Metres,
This long but fair par 5 offers a good chance of birdie or even eagle for the longer hitters of the golf ball and it plays as stroke index 15 on the score card. From a slightly elevated tee the first 100 metres or so plays up hill out of a narrow tunnel of pine trees that line most of this fairway and just to make it even more interesting the is also a ravine that you need to clear to make the first cut of fairway. This hole is a slight dog leg from right to left but the ideal line from the tee is just inside the two bunkers that you can see out to the right side of the fairway however if you should carry those bunkers right you will be down in a deep riven that is marked with red posts.
Down the left side of this fairway there is a narrow river that runs from the tee down to about 150 metresfrom the green and at this point out left you will find one large bunker cut into the bank. From the first cut of grass this fairway is wide but the further from the tee you are it starts to narrow so you need a long but well placed tee shot on this hole. This really is a well thought out par 5 and once at your drive you will find that there is a small cluster of trees that although in the semi-rough right they can hamper your line down to this large green.
The day I played this great course with friends I took the brave line down the right side over a bunker at about 50
metres from the green and hit a 5 wood to about 12 feet for an easy birdie but if I had gone long or far right my ball would have been down in a very deep riven, as I have always said you are better to be lucky than good. The best line for most mortals is down the left part of this fairway which will give you a good line onto the green. This green has one bunkers wide front right and one back left and as I said above the only place you don’t want to be is long through the back as you wont find the ball.
This large green has only a few twists and turns and the best place to land is smack bang in the middle as its flat there.

Hole 6 Par 4, 407 Metres,
This is a tough par four and plays at stroke index 2 on the card and is all up hill to the green. The tee shot is quite a daunting and challenging one as you have to carry over a wide and deep riven the carry is about 170 – 180 yards. This is not the only problem from the tee as there are two very well placed bunkers at about 150metres right in the middle of the fairway. The best line from the tee is out to the right side of the two bunkers this will give you a good line up into the green.
Before you take on your approach shot to this green its well worth using the buggy and driving up to have a look to see where is best place to land your second shot as you may be left with a long shot up to the green.
This green is set at an angle to the fairway and is very long, narrow with many undulations so the closer to the pin you get the better chance to make a good par . For those of you who cant reach this green in two shots the line again is up the right side of the fairway this will leave a nice open pitch towards the pin. For the golfers that take this green on in two shots take at least one more club as its all carry over another bunker at about 20 meters short of the front edge and one large bunker that covers the whole of the left side, even if you carry the second bunker there is every chance that your ball will bounce back into the sand. Its better to be longer than short with your second shot as from the middle back to the back left its banked to gather your ball and this will still give a good chance of making a pitch and putt for par.

Hole 7 Par 4, 263 Metres,
This seventh hole is a short attractive par four played mainly uphill to the green and is stroke index 18 on the score card. From the tee the first 150 meters or so is downhill then the fairway flattens out before the steep climb to the green. This fairway is tree lined but they don’t really come into play but the bunkers at both side of this fairway do and yes they are just in driving distance from the tee, two right side and two left side.
This fairway is fairly generous and as always down the middle is the best line, it may well be that only a three wood from the tee is the best choice of club to take the bunkers out of play this will still only leave a very short iron onto the putting surface.Again it may well be worth taking a drive up to the green to see just what area is best to land your second shot and also to see where the pin is cut on the day you play.
As you climb the hill you will find two bunkers left side of the green and one front right, what you wont see is the pot bunker back right so beware. When playing your approach shot at this hole my best advice is be aggressive and attack the pin, this green is quite flat and pretty large so should offer a good birdie chance.

Hole 8 Par 3, 174 Metres,
This maybe a short par three but never the less it demands your attention and a good solid iron shot should help you make par or better. As always choosing the correct club is the key to making par on this hole,  there is probably three clubs of difference from front edge to back edge so play with confidence.
It is advisable to hit the green as there is nothing but trouble all around this hole. This long large green is two tiered with the higher level being towards the back portion of the putting surface.
There is also trouble surrounding this green as you will soon see it when you are on the tee.

There is a narrow stream that runs up the right side of the fairway and crosses over the front to the left side and beyond. This hole is played at stroke index 11 on the score card.

Hole 9 Par 5, 494 Metres,
Now jump back into your buggy cross back over the road and turn down to your left, there you will find the 9th tee back up to the club house. In my opinion this is a super par 5 and if the last hole was not intimidating enough for you then try this one out for size. From the tee its a driver that needs to be well placed up the middle right side of this narrow fairway avoiding both bunkers out right side at about 170 & 280 metres and one further bunker left side at about 250 metres.
From a slightly elevated tee there is a lake in front of you which you have to carry over and it continues all the way up the left side of the fairway and beyond the green.
Out to the far right there is a bank that runs most of the length of this well sculpted fairway, there you will find a few small trees and the next fairway.
The absolute big no no on this hole is not to go left as yes there is water there but also tall pampas type grass and this will result in a lost ball, so steer your ball up the right side till you get closer to the green in the far distance.
As I have said play up the middle right of this fairway but watch out for one further bunker at about 150metres from the green, you want to be just inside this as the fairway gets really narrow at this point. Now we are getting closer to the green I thought it worth mentioning that this hole is stroke index 1 on the score card. For almost all levels of golfer this hole plays as a true par 5 and takes three good shots to land safely on the green.
The green its self is elevated with a steep bank to the front and right, water out to the left and a large deep bunker right side with two rather large trees in the middle of it
( If coming in from the right side you will have to clear the trees to make the putting surface ).
As you can see it still take a very good 3
rd shot to land on this green.
One last tip I will give you before hitting your third shot is that this green slopes from the middle down towards the front edge but is flat beyond this point with a small run of area towards the back , so be bold.

Hole 10 Par 4, 434 Metres,
When you get back in the buggy follow the path up to your right towards the club house, the 10th tee is located close to the first tee.
This hole plays as a very slight dog leg left to right and has an elevated tee, this gives a good view of the fairway. This fairway is quite wide but it take a good drive to find the middle of it as it slopes from left to right and just within driving distance there are three bunkers located out to the right waiting for any ball that is hit down the middle right hand side of the fairway. One last point from the tee you can only see two of the bunkers down the right , the last one being about 100 metres short of the green.

If you do happen to block your tee shot out to the right there is a bank with a few trees on it at about the same distance as the bunkers and further right is the 11th fairway, its not to bad a line back into this large green. The approach shot into this green has to be a good on as this green slopes dramatically from back left to front right side and has many undulations to contend with, also just to make it more of a challenge you will be playing of a down hill lie to the green.

The entrance to the green its self is quite open but watch out for the bunker short left, back left and back right.

One last note its better to be front edge of this green than through the back as there are many trees and bushes located there and will make life very difficult and could result in a lost ball.

Hole 11 Par 5, 463 Metres,
Now for yet another tough but very challenging par 5 back up towards the club house. This hole plays as stroke index 8 on the score card so its now roll over.
Standing on the tee with a driver the best line is up the right side of this wide flat fairway, its about 120 metre carry to make the first cut.

At the left hand edge of the tee there is a water hazard that really doesn’t come into play, but just beyond it there is one very large bunker that starts at 90 metres from the tee and continues to about 150 metres so try and avoid this one. In fact try and steer clear of the left side of this fairway as there are four more well spaced bunkers to contend with along with many trees. Up the right side there is a bank that runs all the way up to the greens edge, this bank is covered in short very thick rough and trees, at about 260 metres from the tee you will find another bunker in this semi-rough.

Once past all fairway bunkers it opens up again with a clear open shot up hill to the green. This green is only guarded by two left side bunkers that hopefully don’t come into play. So the best line for most of this hole is middle right for your drive and second shot. Playing onto this well designed green makes it rather tricky to get really close to the pin, so its well worth driving up and taking a look at where the pin is cut on the day you play this super course.
I would say that 9 times out of 10 the pin will be cut towards the middle back right side, it takes a good solid hit third shot to carry over the bank that runs for about 20 Meters before you hit the green. Its a must to carry the ball well passed this point or you will be facing a very difficult putt.
The high point of this green is front edge and after about 10 paces it drops off very steeply down towards the back right side of this wonderful green. Should you go to long there is a run off area which will still give you a chance of getting up and down for par.

I would say this hole should be played as a par five and played this way will give you a par or birdie every time.

Hole 12 Par 3, 146 Metres,
The 12
th hole maybe short but it is a very well designed golfing hole and it takes an accurate shot to find the putting surface.Club choice is very important as always, but as I have said above accuracy is paramount. From the front edge off the tee there is a rather large lake that surrounds the whole of the front left side and continues all the way around the right side and beyond. To the left side of this long narrow green there are two very well placed bunkers, so as you can tell its a target tee shot.
The putting surface its self is long and narrow , it slopes gently from front edge down towards the back of the green.
This is a fun golfing hole and is good for a nearest to the pin shot if you are playing in a large group.

Hole 13 Par 4, 398 Metres,
Now for one of the easier par fours on this challenging golf course, the stroke index is 16.
This hole plays down hill to a green that is tucked into the left hand side of a very wide fairway, and the good news is that there is only one bunker to contend with yippee!

So from the tee open your shoulders up and go for a big drive to leave a nice short approch shot to the green. The only place to try and really avoid is down the far right side of the fairway as it is banked and covered with trees and short thick rough, however, in saying that the best line from the tee is slightly towards the right side of the fairway as this will take the bunker front left out of play and make the approach shot much easier.
Once at your ball looking at this large flat green you will see a few palm trees back right and to your left pampas type grass that must be about 2 metres tall , this grass covers from front left and continues all the way around the back of the green.
What you don’t see is the large water hazard that this grass is growing out of ,so your approach shot needs to be hit into the centre of the green and under no circumstances hit long as this will result in a lost ball.
This may sound easy to write but a nice drive and a decent hit second shot will give all players a good chance to make birdie.

Hole 14 Par 4, 353 Metres,
This 14th hole plays as stroke index 3 on the score card but I think this is more to do with the fact that its all uphill to the green and into a breeze it takes a well hit drive just to make the first cut of fairway and another to land on the green.
From the tee you will notice that again the right side of the fairway is banked and covered with trees but no real trouble if you do leak the ball right. The best line is straight at the bunker up the right side of the fairway it is about 90 metres short of the green and will leave you with an open shot to the putting surface. There is one more long fairway bunker up the left side that will come into play from the tee if you pull your drive, this is not the place to be as it is about 140 metres short of the green and will leave you with a tricky second shot.
As with most of the fairways on this golf course you won’t find very many flat lies so ball position at address is all important if you are to play well.
The approach shot to this green needs to be a good one and hit with confidence and I can tell you that it plays about one club more than it looks. There are three bunkers around this large green one front right one front left and one middle left, but if you should go long there is no real danger through this green and with a good pitch you still have every chance of making par.

Hole 15 Par 5, 458 Metres,
This long par 5 up hill is yet another great golfing hole and I would say should be played as a par 5 as it takes three well placed shots to hit the green, then two putts for par (sound easy doesn’t it?).
From the tee it takes a well hit drive to clear the large lake and find the fairway, the best line from the tee is up the right hand side of the fairway as up the left there are four very well placed bunkers that range from about 180 to 250 metres . Both sides of this wide fairway are tree lined and out to the far right in the semi-rough there is a bank that will help kick the ball back onto the fairway should you hit wide.
As you approach the last of the four bunkers left you will see that this is the narrowest point of the fairway so as I said above it needs a long but accurate tee shot if you are to have a chance of making par.
The best line for your second shot is straight up the middle or just right of center as at about 100 metres short left there is another well placed bunker, this is not the place to be hitting your third shot from.
The green its self is quite narrow but very long and although it is an open shot to the green it is well guarded by two very large bunkers one left the other right side both stretch the full length of the putting surface.
Remember this hole is all uphill and for your third shot it is well worth taking one extra club to make it all the way to the middle of this relatively flat green. This hole plays as stroke index 14 on your score card.

Hole 16 Par 3, 199 Metres,
Depending where the tee is on the day you play this super golf course it can be relatively short or very long especially if into the wind as it was the last time I played here, think it was a 4 iron that day. Basically, it can be anything from a 3 wood to a 7 or 8 iron.
In actual fact most budding golfers should be in with a good chance of making par on this hole as it is ranked at stroke index 13 on the score card. From the tee it is an open shot and rather inviting as always club selection is paramount. This fairway is partially tree lined and posses no real threat from the tee however there are many bunkers around this green from front left, middle left, back left, middle back, back right and middle right so yes it take a good tee shot to find the putting surface. The green its self is quite a strange shape and slopes from back right to front left and there are a few subtle undulations to contend with so the closer to the pin you are the better.

Hole 17 Par 3, 194 Metres,
This hole is simply a great but very intimidating par three and from the yellow tee plays about 175 yards. One piece of advice I can give you is that when you are coming down the 16th fairway have a look over to your right and see where the pin is cut as the 17th green is very long, this will help you with club selection when on the tee.
From the front edge of this tee all the way to the putting surface there is one enourmus bunker that also covers both left and right sides of the green. There is one more bunker that surrounds all the way around the back of the green for any shot that may go long.
Again from the tee all you can see is sand and maybe the first two or three metres of the green, however this green is slightly raised and banked around most of its edge so if you are of line with your tee shot the ball will end up in sand.
This green is narrow and must be some 50 or 60 paces long with many tricky contours to contend with so choose your club wisely because the closer to the pin you are the better chance you have of making par on this hole.
The best way to play this hole once you have chosen your club is to focus on the middle portion of the green and be positive. Good luck you may need it.
This hole plays as stroke index 9 on the score card.

Hole 18 Par 5, 484 Metres,
This final hole at Font Del Llop is simply a fantastic par 5 to finish your round of with, and in my opinion it is as good a par five as I have ever played on any golf course any where. From the tee you will see that this is a very wide fairway and there is plenty of room for those wayward tee shots.

Down the left side of the fairway there are out of bounds white stakes by the buggy path and just in view from the tee you can see one small bunker, what you don’t see is that there are a total of 4 bunkers just waiting for any long drive left. This cluster of bunkers left are about 210 metres from the tee.At this point the fairway gets quite narrow and drops downhill by about 50 feet, there are many undulations on this steep bank and can leave a tricky lie to play from.Should you decide to hit your tee shot out to the right away from all of the trouble you will find that the second shot will have to be played over a very large lake which comes into play at about 300 metres from the tee.
On the many occasions that I have played this course I use driver and try and get to the bottom of the steep slope as this gives a good chance of hitting this green in two shots.
Probably the best way to play this hole is a nice 3 wood down the middle right and then another 3 wood past the water hazard right to the widest part of the fairway this will also open up the green for your approach shot. The only other real danger when playing your second shot is the other cluster of bunkers left side at about 140 metres short of the green. There are a total of 6 bunkers from this point up to the front left of green side.
For those golfer that take this green on in two shots beware of the large bunker back left, if you land in this one you will then be facing a down hill lie to the pin with water beyond that.
The green its self is located right at the waters edge with a bank that slopes towards the water so its a must not to land on this bank or you will have to take a penalty drop.
This green slopes from back side to front and also from right to left side, this is a tremendous finishing hole just in front of the sun terrace at the club house.
