El Plantio is the only golf club on the Costa Blanca with two courses, one of 18 holes par 72 and one of 9 holes. Uniquely, this course has no holiday housing around it and gives a feeling of total peace and tranquility.

A waterfall flowing into two lakes in the fairway was also built to enhance the surroundings and add to golfers enjoyment of the course.

El Plantio golf course review

Hole 1 Par 4, 400 Metres,

The first tee at El Plantio is situated just behind the caddy masters office to your right and its plain to see that this park land golf course is very well maintained.

Once on the tee you will see clearly see that trees feature a large part on this golf course, with no exception on the first. This hole is tree lined both sides but has a wide fairway to land on. It plays as a slight dog leg to the left, however the best line is straight down the middle or slightly right. Now for the tough part of this opening hole !!! finding the green with your second shot. An average well hit tee shot will still leave quite a long second to the green, you must avoid going to far right as there is out of bounds up this side of the fairway and to your left there is a large water hazard which is difficult to see, but its there never the less. The green is surrounded by large palm tree to the back but the green itself is quite wide and gently slopes from right to left.

This opening hole plays as stroke index 2 on the score card, so par is always a good score to start with.

Hole 2 Par 5, 424 Metres,

Standing on the tee you will think that this is quite a short par 5 and two good shot will easily get you there, however its all uphill and very steep as you approach the green. From the tee this fairway is more than generous but there is out of bound all the way to the green on your right and trees lining the fairway to your left. At about 130 metres from the tee there is one bunker to your left with one more about 50 metres short of the green also on the left side. Up at the green side there is one further bunker out to the right, you will also notice that not only is it very steep as you approach the green but the fairway starts to narrow just to make thinks more difficult. If you decide to take this green on in two shots make sure you take at least two extra clubs because it can be very deceiving. At the back of this large flat green there is a nice bank to stop your ball going to far if you over shoot the green.

Played well this hole offer a good chance of an early birdie.

Hole 3 Par 4, 347 Metres,

This hole in my opinion is a great testing par 4, you will see that I mean once on the tee.

Standing high on the hillside looking down at a nice wide fairway its very tempting to reach for your driver, but don’t.

This hole plays as a sharp dog leg to the right with out of bounds all the way down your right side. The safe play her is to hit a long iron or rescue club down to the dog leg, if you go to far you will find that the large lake in front of you from the tee will come into play at about 220 metres, also your ball will get quite a bit of roll down this fairway. Once at your ball you will see that the water hazard continues all the way round the left side and back of this green. The entrance to this green is very tight and demanding, the only bail out area is just right of green side, if you go to far you may be out of bounds. This green lies at an angel to you and is quite narrow but long, it also has a two tiered effect high at the back and much lower towards the front.

This hole plays as stroke index 6 on your score card and par her is always welcome.

Hole 4 Par 5, 495 Metres,

Playing from an elevated tee looking down the fairway all you see is a wide open fairway lined on both sides with very thick palm trees, which once in them can be very difficult to get out of. This fairway has many gentle slopes down to the green and with three well hit shots should offer you with a birdie chance or easy par. This green has no trouble at the front and is longer than it is wide. At the back left side of the green there is a flat bunker and just beyond this there are railway sleepers built into a bank which is covered in trees. This is a very picturesque golfing hole.

Hole 5 Par 4, 397 Metres,

This tee shot is again played to quite a wide fairway but the trees to your left are very close to the edge of the semi-rough, so the best line is down the middle or just right. At about 210 metres from the tee there is a bunker to the right that can’t be seen from the tee, so don’t go to far right. Once at your ball its slightly uphill to this huge long green, watch out for the large bunker short left and one shallow bunker back right. The putting surface is relatively flat and played well should reward you with a solid par. This hole is stroke index 8 on your score card.

Hole 6 Par 4, 331 Metres,…. to be continued.
