Las Ramblas is another par 72 golf course at 5807 metres long. It is located between two ravines on the shore of the Mediterranean. All the greens and fairways are dramatic and contrasting, this golf course is kept in fantastic condition all the year round, its a must play when in this area.
This course is more of a thinking man’s golf course but also a very tough test if you want to try and play to your handicap. You will use most of the clubs in your bag round this testing golf course.

Las Ramblas update May 2017

Steven review of Las Ramblas on 23/05/17…
Las Ramblas is a very popular golf course with many off our good customers, the par is 72 at this golf course and is 5807 metres long.
You will use pretty much every club in the bag round this testing golf course.
Over the last few months we at Golf4ualicante have had many customers play at Las Ramblas and I can tell you that the feedback has been extremely positive about this great golf course, so myself and my friends went to see for ourselves yesterday the 23rd of May.
From the time we checked in with Emillio at the caddy masters to having a coffee in the sunshine looking over the practice area we were made to feel very welcome at all times.
We played in two 4 ball’s George and Morris V Mally and Chic, the victor’s in this game were Chic and Mally with a win of some 5&4, Chic shot gross 89 of a handicap of 18, needless to say he was cut by one shot.
The second 4 ball was Iain and Ian V Jim and myself, we had a very tough game and were two down for most of the round both Iain & Ian were playing very good golf.
At the Par 5 13th Jim had a great par less a shot to win the hole then I won the next to get back to all square.
Both Ian’s had shots at the 16th & 17th hole but fortune and good luck shone on Jim and myself, we managed to be one up with one to play.
Down the last hole which is a super par 5 both Ian and myself had birdie putts which we both just missed in fact Ian hit the edge of the hole for about the 6th time, so great game all the way down to the very last putt.
We all found the tee’s were in very good condition, the fairway’s were fantastic, the surface was like playing from a very good quality carpet just superb.
All of the greens were the same pace and soft enough to land on with a well hit shot. Also they were very true and a good speed to putt on.
Many of the tree’s around this golf course have been cut back to make the course not only look nicer but hopefully easier to play.
Lastly all of my friends that played this high quality golf course really enjoyed their day’s golf.

18 Hole review

Hole 1 Par 4, 366 Metres,
Standing on a high elevated tee surrounded by trees you have two options from this tee. The option you choose all depends on how far you hit the ball from the tee. The 1st and safest option have a walk to the front of the tee and look down at the fairway to your left you will then see the landing area and can then choose what club to hit on this line. This hole plays as a dog leg left to right line with trees both side and uphill to the green but if you choose option two from the tee you need to hit your driver at least 230 metres to carry all the trees that stand between you and the fairway, the line is straight at the green. There are no bunkers on this opening hole and the fairway is quite wide although it looks very tight from the tee. Up to the green and its a two tiered one that slops from back to front and can be very fast if you are putting from the top side of the pin.
Hole 2 Par 4, 325 Metres,
This hole isn’t to long and plays straight to the green. Again the fairway is lined with trees both sides and out of bounds down the right side. If you opt to use your driver at this hole watch out for the big dip in the fairway short of the green as this make it difficult to get up and down to make par from down there. At about 80 metres short of the green the fairway slops very steeply from right to left and the ball will take a big kick to the left and could end up in trees, blocking you out from the green. The safe play at this hole is to hit a long iron or rescue club from the tee down the middle right side of the fairway just short of the fairway gully. You should only be left with a wedge for your second shot onto the green. Again there are no bunkers on this hole, but the green is two tiered and slops from right to left and is quite wide. Don’t go long with your second as there is a very deep gorge through the back of this plateau green.
Hole 3 Par 5, 484 Metres,
Once on this tee take a walk to the front edge to have a look at the landing area down to the left. This hole plays as a dog leg left to right and the fairway is quite narrow in parts. Again from the tee there are two options here the safe one and the high risk one, you choose. The safe route is to play this hole as a par 5 and hit your tee shot down onto the fairway that you can see from the tee with about a 4 or 5 iron, dont go to far left as there is a deep tree lined gorge. The high risk tee shot is to aim up the steep tree covered slope in front of you about twenty metres high. It takes a long well hit ball to carry all the trees and rocks to find the fairway, but will give you a good chance to hit the green in two shots. At about 200 metres from the green the fairway gets really narrow and there is a grassy ditch to watch out for middle right. There are trees scattered across this fairway as you make your way to the green, including one just short front middle,(the good news is there are no bunkers on this hole). Again the safe play with your second shot is to hit the ball just past the grassy ditch to the widest part of the fairway and leave an 8 or 9 iron onto the green. This green is long and narrow so club selection is all important. Don’t go right with your approach to the green as it slops down into more trees.
Hole 4 Par 5, 483 Metres,
Now for one of the most testing par 5’s in golf. From the tee the hole plays straight and from the yellow tee it’s not a driver. The first part of the fairway is quite wide and to the left there are many trees, up the right side there is a steep bank and one very large rock with a few tall pine trees and thick rough,(don’t go up there). The best line from this tee is just right of the centre, and its about a good 3 iron or a rescue club over the brow of the fairway and down the slop. Once at your ball take a walk down to the edge of the ravine and there you will find a rather large landing area for your second shot. For the brave its about a 5 or 6 iron from a down hill lie to the green below, but it’s a must hit the green shot as there is another deep gorge and slop just short of the green. This green is big and soft, it slopes from right to left and from back to front. Don’t go long at this hole as there is also out of bounds through the back of the green.
Hole 5 Par 4, 248 Metres,
This is a very tight short par 4 dog leg left to right and there are two ways to play this hole, I will let you choose. The safe play is to hit a 7 or 8 iron from the tee down to the corner of the dog leg, but watch your ball land as the fairway slopes steeply from right to left and you could end up in the trees on the left side of the fairway and blocked out from the green. Once on the fairway its only about 120 metres up to the green. The high risk tee shot is over all the trees on the right side, you can see the green from the tee through the trees but it must be a well hit shot and you have to get the ball in the air quickly to clear the trees ( If its any help I use a 7 wood to hit this green from the tee). The green is protected by two deep bunkers one front left the other front right. There is also a bank round the right side of the green and it runs round to the back, but don’t go long as there is trouble through this green. This hole is a great birdie chance.
Hole 6 Par 3, 115 Metres,
This is a good short par 3 with a large green to aim at, but its all carry to the putting surface. From the tee its about a 9 or wedge shot to the pin. All the trouble at this hole is down the right side, one deep bunker cut into the front right side of the green and the other bunker back right. Don’t go right of the bunkers as there is a deep gorge that runs the full length of this hole. Yet another good birdie chance if you find the putting surface from the tee.
Hole 7 Par 4, 339 Metres,
From a plateau tee at this hole you stand facing a fairway that runs at right angles to the right. Its all carry over a very deep gorge and trees to a narrow fairway, its a must hit shot. I would recommend its a 5 or 6 iron from the tee to the middle of this fairway. At no point on this hole can you go right as the gorge runs all the way up the right side of this fairway and up to the green. Once one the fairway it slops down hill into a sort of basin shaped fairway then up the steep slop to the green. Your second shot must hit the green as if it lands short it will hit the slop and come back down the hill to meet you. Club selection is very important for your second shot to this green. This green is quite flat and deep so hit a good crisp shot and make an easy par.
Hole 8 Par 4, 290 Metres,
This is another good looking golf hole from the tee. Its all uphill and lined with trees both sides of the fairway up to the green. The fairway is quite wide and flattens out about 50 metres from the green. From the tee its straight up the middle but you have to hit over a ditch to make the fairway. Your second shot should only be a short iron to this par 4, if your near the top of the slop. This green has a bank that runs round the right side and round to the back of the green which will help gather the ball onto this long narrow green. I would recommend having a walk up to see where the pin is positioned on the day. Don’t miss the green left as there is a steep bank which will kick the ball down into trees and make it very difficult to make par.
Hole 9 Par 4, 301 Metres,
This is another super par 4 with two options from the tee, again you choose. From a very high tee you look down at this dog leg left hole. The fairway looks and is very narrow as its lined with trees on both sides. It’s important if you choose to play this hole as a dog leg that you choose the correct club from this tee because if you go to long you will run out of fairway on the right and be blocked out from the green. Once on the fairway your second shot is played over the edge of a large duck pond with a medium short iron up to the green, watch out for the bunker cut into the front right side of this long two tiered green. The high risk option cuts about 45 metres of the length of this hole and could offer you the chance to make an easy birdie or better still an eagle. The line on this tee shot is straight at the big tree to the left side of the green which you can see from the tee. If you pull this tee shot left you will be safe as the first fairway is over there but you can’t see it from the tee. Good luck !

Hole 10 Par 3, 164 Metres,
This is a good short par 3 but quite narrow from the tee. There is out of bounds all the way up the right side of this fairway and very close to the edge of this long narrow green. Down the left side you have trees ,Villa’s and out of bounds. From the tee its about a 5 or 6 iron depending on how far you hit the ball. The green slops from back to front and right to left so club selection is very important again at this hole.
Hole 11 Par 4, 366 Metres,
This hole is long, staight and down hill. The fairway slops from left to right and can kick the ball down into the trees on the right and beyond into a ditch. From an elevated tee the best line with your driver is as close to the semi rough to the left as possible, don’t go to far left as there is out of bounds and Villas up there. Once on the fairway you play down to the green which has one large bunker cut to the right side. This green is very long and quite flat, so choose the correct club for your approach shot. Down the left side of the green there are trees and a steep bank with thick rough on it which will grab your ball and make it difficult to get down in two to make par.
Hole 12 Par 3, 192 Metres,
This is a great par 3, elevated tee and plateau green. Down the right side you have out of bounds and a deep gorge that runs all the way up to the 16th green and beyond. Down the left side you have trees and Villa’s. From the tee its all carry over the one bunker cut front right to this large soft green. The most important thing here is club selection and your own confidence to hit a good shot into the centre of the green.
Hole 13 Par 5, 441 Metres,
This par 5 plays as a dog leg to the right and you need a good tee shot to start with. This tee is set back in the trees and as I said there is a gorge to the right that runs all the way up the right side of the next 4 holes and comes into play at most of them. So with your driver from the tee hit over the gorge and down to the fairway ahead, but don’t go to far left as you will be blocked out by tall trees. Both sides of this fairway are lined with tall pine trees and it slops from left to right  which on this occasion helps kick the ball round the corner. At about 200 metres from the green the fairway is at its narrowest and dips down hill then up to this long green, watch out for the grassy ditch in the dip. Your second shot should be placed again down the middle to give you a short iron onto the green. There is one bunker cut into the front left of the green and a steep bank left side that runs round to the back of this green. Try not to go right as the slop will kick your ball down into the trees and make life very difficult to make par.
Hole 14 Par 3, 139 Metres,
This tee is set back in tall pine trees and its a must hit the green here. There is trouble everywhere apart from on the green at this short but testing hole. From the tee you face a plateau green and just short the deep gorge runs across this hole and its almost imposible to get up and down in two from there. To the right of this large green it slops of down a steep bank and into trees, through the back you have a very steep bank covered with thick rough. Choose your club wisely at this hole.
Hole 15 Par 4, 304 Metres,
This is a very good looking short par 4, from an elevated tee your best line with the driver is straight at the big pine tree in the centre of this wide fairway. The fairway is lined with trees both sides all the way up to the green and also round the back. Once on the fairway it’s an uphill shot with a short iron onto the green. The green is partially protected on the front left side by tall pine trees and often the pin is placed just behind these trees. The safe play here is aim at the centre of this large green and make par.
Hole 16 Par 4, 377 Metres,
From the tee this fairway is probabley the widest on the course and dog legs to the right. It’s a driver from the tee and you must carry the gorge to the front of the tee and down the right side. This hole is classed as stroke index 3 on the score card, so don’t be fooled by the wide fairway. Once on the fairway which slopes from left to right its all uphill to the green. The best line from the tee is just right of centre, this will give you a good flat stance to play from up to the plateau green. This green is large and slopes from back to front and left to right. There is one bunker cut into the front left side, with a grassy bank further left. Don’t go down the right here as there is a steep slop that will kick the ball down into more trees.
Hole 17 Par 4, 415 Metres,
Now for the longest par 4 on the course and at stroke index 1 it speaks for its self. From an elevated tee this hole plays as a slight dog leg left with two saddle back humps across the fairway. There are trees both sides of this narrow fairway all the way to the green. Once on the fairway its still a long iron to this plateau green. If you land short the ball will run back down the very steep slope and make it tricky to make par at this one. This steep slope also runs round and down the left hand side of the green. Up the right side near the green there is out of bounds and tall pine trees, so par here is a great score.
Hole 18 Par 5, 458 Metres,
Now for the final hole and a chance of finishing with a birdie. This par 5 is a great last hole and from the tee with your driver the best line is just right of the single trees to your left. From the tee the fairway is wide open, but lined with trees and slopes down hill and from left to right, if you hit the ball to far right of the tee it could kick out of bounds. Once on the fairway your second shot is up hill to this very large plateau green. The safe play is to hit your second shot into a good position so you can attack the pin with your wedge. There is a grassy bank all the way round the back of this green and its tough stuff to play from. The green slopes from front to back and from right to left.

GOLF COURSE UPDATE:-Steven played this course yet again in May 2015 and found that the greens were fantastic to putt on. The whole course is in excellent condition. The fairways are also in great shape at this challenging golf course. Its as good as you can find in some of the better courses in the UK-it has been said “its a hard challenge but could improve your game”( but maybe not your temper!).
